The obituary described Metcalfe as someone with a strong love for books and reading. She continued visiting used book sales throughout her life in search of new books.

“We are grateful for the part she played in the history of the library and the books and smiles she brought to the community over the years. We are thinking of her friends and family during this time,” according to a statement from the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library.

Outside of her work at the library, Metcalfe volunteered with the Barren River Animal Welfare Association, where she served as treasurer, according to her obituary.

She was also known for her care of animals, including her cats, Jet and Zulu, the obituary said.
