FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentuckians can fish without a license this weekend as the state’s annual Free Fishing Weekend returns June 6-7.

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is waiving fishing license and permit requirements for all residents and visitors during the two-day event, allowing anglers of all ages to fish in public waters across the commonwealth.

While licenses are not required during the weekend, all other fishing regulations remain in effect, including size limits and daily catch limits. Anglers must also obtain permission before fishing on private property.

The department said communities across Kentucky will host special events during the weekend, many geared toward introducing children and families to fishing.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife also encourages new anglers to take advantage of online resources that provide information on equipment, fishing locations, regulations and instructional videos.

The agency offers a loaner fishing pole program at locations across the state and maintains online maps showing stocked lakes and public fishing access sites.

More information about fishing locations, regulations and local events is available through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
