GLASGOW, Ky. — Flags across Kentucky will be lowered to half-staff Friday in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day under an order issued by Gov. Andy Beshear.

The governor directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered May 15 in accordance with a proclamation from the White House recognizing officers who died or were disabled in the line of duty.

A joint resolution approved by Congress in 1962 designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as Police Week.

“Kentucky’s law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to serve and protect us, and we cannot thank them enough. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice especially deserve to be remembered and revered,” Beshear said in a statement.

Beshear also encouraged businesses, organizations and residents across the commonwealth to lower their flags in tribute.

Additional information about Kentucky flag status notices is available through the Governor’s Office flag status page.
