Man accused of stealing Glasgow school bus indicted

GLASGOW, Ky. — A young man accused of stealing a Glasgow Independent Schools bus earlier this month has been indicted by a Barren County grand jury, according to a copy of the indictment obtained from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

The charge stems from an April 4 incident in which police say 18-year-old Taysean M. Barlow took a bus from Glasgow High School during the early morning hours.

According to an arrest citation, school officials later located the bus parked near a Dollar General store, where it showed visible damage, including scratches along the exterior that appeared to be recent.

District officials reviewing GPS data told police the bus was started around 4:30 a.m., left campus and traveled along Coral Hill Road before eventually being parked at the store roughly an hour later.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed the suspect entering the bus with a flashlight and then driving it off school property.

Authorities later located the suspect at a residence on Coral Hill Road, where he was taken into custody. According to the citation, Barlow's mother told officers she had instructed him to return the bus after he brought it home.

He was formally charged with theft by unlawful taking ($10,000 or more but under $1 million), unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, second-degree criminal mischief and operating on a suspended or revoked operator's license.

The indictment formally advances the case to Barren Circuit Court.

Barlow is scheduled to appear for arraignment on May 18 at 10 a.m.
