GLASGOW, Ky. — More than 2,000 people have cast ballots in Barren County during early voting ahead of Election Day, according to County Clerk Helena Birdwell.

Across Kentucky, early voting ran for three days and ended Saturday, following an earlier period of in-person absentee voting.

Birdwell said a total of 2,211 voters had participated in either early voting or absentee voting as of Saturday evening. A breakdown by party was not immediately available.

State figures released by Secretary of State Michael Adams show 57,380 people voted early on Friday alone, including 33,604 Republicans, 23,150 Democrats and 626 independents.

He said early voting totals were up 75% compared to the last election cycle. Saturday numbers were not included in his morning update.

Birdwell said she expects roughly 4,500 voters to turn out for the primary in Barren County, where several local races are on the ballot.

The county has 31,717 registered voters, according to the State Board of Elections.

Of those, 11,661 are registered Democrats and 17,148 are registered Republicans, while the remaining voters are registered with smaller parties or as independents.
