BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Former students, fellow educators and school districts have until Aug. 15 to nominate outstanding Kentucky educators for induction into the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame.

The program, housed at Western Kentucky University, honors educators who have made significant contributions to the teaching profession and the lives of children and youth across the Commonwealth.

To be eligible, nominees must have at least 19 years of teaching experience, including at least 10 years in a Kentucky P-12 school. Both living and deceased educators may be nominated.

Teachers may be nominated by school districts, colleagues, former students or others familiar with their impact in the classroom. Nomination packets must be submitted by Aug. 15.

According to the Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame, nominations should focus on the educator's impact on students and young people in Kentucky.

Submission materials can include supporting documentation such as essays, testimonials, honors and awards, professional achievements, career highlights and newspaper clippings.

Nominators may also submit up to five letters of recommendation and a photograph of the nominee.

A selection committee composed of higher education faculty and administrators, P-12 educators and administrators, representatives of state agencies and professional organizations, and previous Hall of Fame inductees will review nominations.

The committee will select between three and six educators for induction.

Nominees not selected will remain eligible for consideration for up to three years following their initial nomination.

The Kentucky Teacher Hall of Fame was established in 2000 through a gift from former Kentucky Gov. Louie B. Nunn. The first class of inductees was honored in 2008.

The Hall of Fame recognizes Kentuckians who have dedicated much of their careers to education and made lasting contributions to students, schools and communities throughout the state.

Individuals seeking additional information about the nomination process may contact Tammy Spinks with WKU's College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.
