FRANKFORT, Ky. — State officials provided an update Thursday on the Glendale megasite project, confirming planned developments after hundreds of layoffs late last year.

Gov. Andy Beshear said Ford has agreed to assume all obligations under the original agreement and confirmed a new investment in Hardin County.

Plans are to move forward with a new $2 billion investment to produce energy storage systems. The project is expected to create at least 2,100 full-time jobs.

“This is great news for Ford, great news for Hardin County and great news for all of Kentucky,” Beshear said. “Ford has been a great employer and corporate partner in our state for more than a century, and our winning partnership will continue well into the future.”

The announcement follows changes to the original joint venture after SK On exited the project in late 2025. The companies cited “changes in public policy related to the electric vehicle industry, trade policy issues and changing dynamics in the marketplace.”

Ford Motor Co. previously laid off approximately 1,600 people who were hired to work at the Glendale plant.

Beshear said his office has worked in recent months to protect taxpayers, support affected employees and create new jobs.

“Today, the Governor announced that Ford agreed to the updated terms and the company and state are moving forward together,” a news release said.

Officials said additional development work and project coordination remain ongoing as the site moves into its next phase of production.
