GLASGOW, Ky. — A community fundraiser has been launched to support a local man who has taken in his young niece following an April 6 shooting that left a mother and her unborn child dead.

According to the fundraiser, 2-year-old Chloe Shay lost her mother, Ava Woodcock, and her unborn sister, Nevaeh, in what is being described as a senseless act of violence.

As Bond appeared on the courtroom’s Zoom screen from the jail, members of the crowd held up signs in his view. The courtroom display showed both Bond and those in attendance.

The fundraiser was created by Melinda Colón , who says Chloe is now being cared for by her uncle, Gabriel Woodcock, a 21-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran who recently returned home. He has assumed full responsibility for raising the toddler.

Colón says Gabriel stepped in immediately following the tragedy and is now working to provide stability for Chloe as they begin rebuilding their lives together.

The families know one another through their involvement in the Resilience Factor Program, a group established in 2021 to connect students and families with resources like life skills education and community engagement projects.

Funds raised will help cover housing, transportation, childcare, daily living expenses, clothing, food and other necessities as the pair adjust to an unexpected new reality.

According to the fundraiser, previous community donations helped cover funeral expenses for Ava Woodcock and her unborn child, but those funds were fully used for that purpose.

Supporters are encouraging donations of any amount, as well as shares of the fundraiser, to assist Gabriel and Chloe as they work toward stability in the months ahead.
