GLASGOW, Ky. — Three stretches of county roads are expected to be resurfaced after Barren County Fiscal Court received an additional $775,000 in state funding for local road improvements.

Magistrates on Tuesday approved an agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet accepting the money through the Local Assistance Road Program, a state initiative that helps counties maintain and improve local roads.

The funding will pay for resurfacing on Old Munfordville Road, Beckton-Rocky Hill Road and Hollow Road, according to Judge/Executive Jamie Byrd.

“They’re long stretches of these roads also. They’re not small sections,” Byrd said. “That’s why the amount is the amount that it is.”

Byrd said the funding is appropriated by the state legislature based on recommendations from local senators and representatives and is designated for those specific projects.

“We have to spend these funds on those projects,” Byrd said.

All three roads are expected to be resurfaced by the end of the current fiscal year, which concludes in June 2027.
