The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 3 traffic impact report for Oct. 18-23 outlines several ongoing projects in Barren and surrounding counties.
GLASGOW, Ky. — Motorists traveling through Barren County should expect continued construction activity and potential delays this week, including a long-term closure of KY 90 and lane restrictions along U.S. 31-E.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 3 traffic impact report for Oct. 18-23 outlines several ongoing projects in Barren and surrounding counties.
KY 90 closure
KY 90 (East Main Street) remains scheduled for a long-term temporary closure between Franklin Street and Morgan Street in Glasgow for approximately 45 days.
The closure, which was scheduled to begin Oct. 5, will require motorists to follow a signed detour using U.S. 68X, also known as Broadway Street and Columbia Avenue, KY 1519 and the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway.
Motorists should plan for additional travel time while the closure is in effect.
U.S. 31-E construction
Work continues on a Highway Safety Improvement Project along U.S. 31-E between J. Carter Road and the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway.
Daytime lane closures are expected as crews complete drainage improvements at several locations along the corridor. The project also includes a new turn lane at Windy Hills Road and minor roadway widening.
The widening will create a 4-foot centerline buffer between opposing travel lanes. Overnight paving is expected to begin this week.
Other regional projects
Motorists traveling elsewhere in the region also should anticipate construction-related delays.
In Edmonson County, crews will resurface KY 185 between mile points 2 and 5.7. Lane closures and flaggers are expected.
In Logan County, paving is complete on KY 3519 between mile points 1.5 and 7.1, but finishing work remains. Motorists should expect lane closures and delays.
In Metcalfe County, work continues on a project to realign U.S. 68 from near KY 729 in Green County to KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The project includes 1.2 miles of new roadway and construction of a bridge over Caney Fork Creek.
In Todd County, a project to widen U.S. 79 from the Tennessee state line to mile marker 3 continues. Lane closures and construction vehicles entering the roadway are expected.
In Warren County, construction continues on the U.S. 31-W Bypass widening project in northern Bowling Green. The roadway is being widened to five lanes between KY 234 and Park Street. Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane through the construction zone. Delays and traffic queues are expected, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2027.
A separate widening project on KY 884 between McCoy Place and Fieldstone Boulevard also is underway. Plans call for widening the roadway to three lanes, constructing a roundabout at Smallhouse Road, adding sidewalks on both sides of the road and building a new bridge over Interstate 165.
On I-165 in Butler County, work continues to restore and preserve the bridges over the Green River at mile point 32.6. Southbound traffic has returned to the southbound side, but lane closures remain in place. The speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists to use caution in construction zones and allow extra time for travel. All work schedules and traffic impacts are subject to change.
