GLASGOW, Ky. — A sidewalk rehabilitation project surrounding the Barren County Courthouse is on track for completion by June 5, according to county officials.

Grey Rock Construction has spent the past several weeks replacing sections of sidewalk and concrete around the courthouse square. While recent rainfall caused minor delays, crews are still expected to meet the original completion timeline.

County officials previously approved an agreement with the Kentucky Administrative Office of the Courts that allows for reimbursement of up to $159,065 for the work.

Barren County government maintains the inner portion of the downtown square, while the city of Glasgow is responsible for maintaining the outer portion.

Because the Administrative Office of the Courts leases the courthouse from the county, the agency typically covers costs related to improvements or repairs to the building and surrounding property.

County government has previously said the project is intended to improve walkability and safety around the courthouse square.

The courthouse is expected to continue serving county government functions after the completion of the new Barren County Judicial Center on West Main Street.

County officials have previously said offices such as the county clerk and sheriff’s office are expected to move into the current courthouse building once the judicial center opens.
