GLASGOW, Ky. — The Louisville Orchestra will return to downtown Glasgow this week, bringing a full day of music and storytelling to the community as part of its In Harmony Tour.

The visit will include a 2 p.m. stop at the Mary Wood Weldon Memorial Library, where members of the orchestra’s In-Harmony Tour ensemble will lead an interactive program featuring live musical storytelling with the children’s book “Bear Snores On.” The free family event does not require registration.

The performance is scheduled to continue Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Public Square, where the orchestra will present a free outdoor concert as part of a summer tradition that draws large crowds into the heart of the city.

The evening concert will transform the square around City Hall into an open-air venue, where audiences typically gather on the courthouse lawn and surrounding streets.

According to the orchestra, the evening program will open with “The Star-Spangled Banner,” followed by Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein and Symphony No. 8 by Antonín Dvořák.

The program will also include Souvenir d’Amérique by Henri Vieuxtemps, featuring a violin soloist, along with A Love Letter to Scotland, a movement from a recent orchestra commission by Anthony R. Green.

Organizers say the event will feature a wide-ranging program and encourage attendees to bring chairs or blankets.

In keeping with the orchestra’s mix of classical and contemporary programming, the concert will feature lighter selections as well, including a heavy metal-inspired arrangement of “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg and the comedic “1712 Overture.”

The evening will close with music from Star Wars by John Williams.

Organizers encourage attendees to bring chairs or blankets and enjoy the performance in the heart of downtown. Admission is free and open to the public.
