BURKESVILLE, Ky. — A section of KY 90 in the Marrowbone community has reopened after crews completed emergency repairs after flooding forced the highway to close.

The roadway, a primary route connecting Cumberland and Barren counties, was shut down last weekend after flash flooding heavily damaged a section over Allen Creek in western Cumberland County.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 mostly handled the repairs. Mutual aid was provided from District 12, which had a particular pipe on hand that District 8 did not have, according to a news release.

The repairs were initially expected to take about two weeks, according to Cumberland County Emergency Management, but crews restored the highway in just three days.

“That commitment to the job and our community is appreciated!” the agency said in a social media post.

The flooding caused widespread damage to roads, homes and other infrastructure across Kentucky, with Cumberland County among the hardest-hit areas. Governor Andy Beshear visited the county earlier this week to assess the damage.
