GLASGOW, Ky. — More than twice the usual number of visitors turned out Saturday for the new Bounty of the Barrens farmers market location.

Mayor Henry Royse said attendance was tracked using a clicker. Just shy of 1,100 people attended.

“They tell me a good day on the square is 500,” Royse said. “So obviously we’re pleased.”

Area farmers and marketgoers generally gathered around the Barren County Courthouse during the summer market. The winter market was held at the University of Kentucky Agriculture Extension Office along West Main Street.

The new facility will serve as both a farmers market and a community gathering space, according to previously released information from officials overseeing the project.

Sustainable Glasgow, the nonprofit that operates the market, had advocated for years for a designated farmers market, according to former director, Brandi Button.

Executive Director Griffin Botts said the market will undergo additional work before it is fully complete. Saturday served as a “soft opening,” he said.

“There will still be some finishing touches that the builders need to apply to the building before we can call it fully completed,” Botts said.

The new location sits along West Main Street beside the post office and next to an active construction site where a new judicial center is under construction.

Ground was broken in March 2025, taking construction a little over a year.

The market is open each Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. It is accessible from West Water Street, near the Glasgow Post Office.
