GLASGOW, Ky. — A new Save A Lot grocery store has opened on East Main Street, expanding food access and creating more than 20 jobs in eastern Barren County.

Houchens Food Group announced the relocation of its Glasgow Save A Lot from South Green Street to a larger facility at 742 E. Main St. The store officially reopened June 3 and was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

The new location adds approximately 2,000 square feet of retail space and includes expanded offerings such as fresh-cut meats, a full-service produce department, baked goods and an aisle dedicated to Hispanic food products.

“We are incredibly proud to serve our hometown of Glasgow, Kentucky,” said Greg Rush, president of Houchens Food Group. “The relocation of this Save A Lot reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our stores, our customers and the communities we call home.”

Rush said the larger store is intended to improve access to grocery services for residents of eastern Barren County.

Company officials said the store serves an important role in the region as the last full-service grocery store for roughly 27 miles when traveling east toward neighboring Metcalfe and Monroe counties.

The expansion is also expected to create more than 20 jobs.

The new store replaces the company's former South Green Street location. A company spokesperson said the building is being sold but declined to disclose the buyer before the sale is completed.

Houchens Food Group traces its roots to Glasgow, where it opened its first grocery store in 1917. The company now operates more than 400 locations across 15 states through a variety of grocery, convenience store, hardware and restaurant brands.
