HODGENVILLE, Ky. — Drivers traveling between Glasgow and Elizabethtown should expect construction delays beginning next week as work gets underway on a key stretch of U.S. 31E in LaRue County.

The highway improvement project will take place along Lincoln Farm Road between the KY 61 (Greensburg Road) and Miller Road intersections in Hodgenville, a segment that serves as part of a common route connecting south-central Kentucky to Elizabethtown.

The project includes paving, striping and curb work, along with a redesigned center turning lane intended to better accommodate both vehicles and pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Officials say the updated layout will also include dedicated left-turn lanes for KY 61 and for the main entrance to Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park.

The entrance to Abe Lincoln Elementary School will also be reconfigured as part of the project, which officials say is designed to reduce congestion and improve safety during peak traffic times.

Motorists are being asked to slow down and use caution when traveling through the work zone. Temporary delays are possible, and flaggers may be present at times to direct traffic while work is active.

The $690,867 contract was awarded in May. Work is scheduled to begin Monday, July 6, and is expected to be completed before the start of the upcoming school year.
