LUCAS, Ky. — Volunteers will head to the shores of Barren River Lake next Saturday for the 39th annual Lakeshore Cleanup.

The cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, with volunteers meeting at one of five boat ramps: Bailey’s Point, The Narrows, Port Oliver, State Park or Walnut Creek.

Volunteers will be transported by boat along the shoreline, where they will collect and bag trash.

Organizers are also looking for volunteer boat owners and drivers to help transport either cleanup volunteers or the trash they collect.

The cleanup will wrap up with a volunteer celebration picnic around 11:30 a.m. at the Quarry Road Recreation Area, located at the beach area next to the dam.

Food and prizes will be provided by the nonprofit Friends of Barren River Lake & Park, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Groups bringing children are required to pre-register so volunteer forms can be provided for parental signatures before the event.

Those interested in volunteering, registering a group or providing a boat can call 270-646-2055 or email Holly.L.Myers@usace.army.mil. Online registration is expected to be available soon.

Complimentary camping is also available for nonprofit groups assisting with the cleanup.
