GLASGOW, Ky. — A second McDonald’s restaurant is expected to open in Glasgow, according to local businessman Larry Glass.

Glass said Tuesday he has signed an agreement with the fast-food chain for a new restaurant at the corner of Trojan Trail and U.S. 31E.

“It is my understanding that this location will be one of only 12 new state-of-the-art prototype stores planned across the country,” Glass said. “We believe this will be a tremendous addition to the south side of Glasgow and another example of the confidence national companies have in the future of our community.”

According to Glass, site work is expected to begin in late July, with the property scheduled to be turned over to McDonald’s by the end of October so business can move forward.

Glasgow previously had a second McDonald’s inside Walmart, but that restaurant closed during a store remodel several years ago. The only other McDonald's in Barren County is currently located in Cave City.

The new store will be located next to Ruler Foods in the former JoAnn’s space.

Glass credited the project to a collaborative effort involving local and state officials, business partners, contractors, tenants and community members who continue to support investment in Glasgow.

The announcement follows other recent retail development news in the city, including plans for Harbor Freight to open in the former JoAnn store at Barren River Plaza and for Teriyaki Madness to occupy another space within the shopping center.

Barren River Plaza, which is co-owned by Glass and Hunter Vann, is home to several tenants, including Marshall’s, Five Below, Starbucks and other stores.
